OJ's Room Reveal!

We have been considering updating Oj's room for awhile now. She is almost 9 years old and we wanted to make her room more her space.

When we moved in with MJL over 3 years ago now, we had to put things together. We didn't want to spend a heap of money so it was more getting what was necessary than what she really wanted to get.

The main things we got her was a bed (of course) which we got a really good mattress that was swapped from her bed at Granny and Poppys to here. A bedside table that matched in too. The toy box was MJL's from his childhood so it was fitting she used that. However, it has been gaining so much in it that I was scared it would get broken. Plus she would just throw everything in it without really sorting it, so it was chaos!

Over the weekend we pulled in Granny and Poppy for help. I helped her clear out the toybox and sort out toys that weren't being played with. (There was actually toys not even opened!)

With a little man power from MJL and Poppy the bed was moved, shelving was put together and things were put in their place.

We moved the bed alongside the window to create a bigger space down the wall.

This also meant the toybox couldn't fit and had to be moved out into garage for storage.

But it meant that the powerpoint and power board are now easily accessible.

The comforter and sheet sets are from Kmart, along with the picture frame that says 'Aloha' on it. I wasn't sure Oj would go for something so girlie, but she chose everything in the room herself. The quilt at the bottom is from Granny. She is so talented!

The shelving is from Kmart and was actually a vertical shelving unit, however we decided to put it horizontally so that it was easier to access for OJ, but also she can use the top of display or to even sit at.

The tubs are old ones from my classroom. I think I got them from Big W when I sorted out my classroom. They are bright and colourful which is perfect for a kids room.

The shelf on the wall was from Kmart too. The jewellery box was my grandmothers (OJs great grandmothers) and the shelf means it is kept safe and out of the way.

Her pictures are displayed on her picture frame held with mini pegs. She has a heap of photos from her instant camera, and from my sprocket. I wanted her pictures to be displayed somehow instead of just stored away.

The whiteboard on the wall is an idea I got from a friend. I can write her messages and reminders about things. At the moment she has a checklist of things that need to be done daily like make bed, get lunchbox out, get school uniform out etc.

Overall I am really proud of the room. We still have a few extra things to do for it, such as a rug or mat on the floor and maybe a lamp for her bedside table.

The theme she wanted was blue/teal colour. I am really proud of her for stepping outside her comfort zone a little bit and going for something a little more girlie. She did have Ninja Turtles and Paw Patrol things in her room previously.

When we had finished the room, OJ even asked if she could do a video for the reveal. I have uploaded it to my Youtube Channel. If you click the link below it should take you to the video.

Make sure to leave a comment on the video so that Oj can see what an amazing job she has done for her first ever video vlog.
