DIY: Tic-Tac-Toe game

Recently I saw a post on a facebook group about making a game using the Kmart Tic Tac Toe wooden game. (In the $1-$5 section with erasers and pens etc.) See below.

Using this game and poker chips I got from Reject shop I created a maths game, and sight word game. The poker chips fit well in the circles, though cannot be pushed into the holes as they do get stuck. I will go through how to make this game below.

How to make the game

Materials needed:

- Kmart naught and crosses game

- Poker Chips

- Round Stickers (kmart)

- Marker

Steps to make it

1. Take out the nought and crosses from the game.

2. Put stickers on to each poker chip.

3. Write the sight words on to each poker chip.

OR

4. Write the number sentence onto the poker chip e.g. 5 + 3

5. Put all the same colour chips together for each player.

Steps to play the game

{2 Player game}

1. Give a set of poker chips to each player.

2. Player 1 says the word or answer to the number sentence on their chip.

3. Turning the chip over they place it on a hole. (Turning over so you can see the colour)

4. Player 2 has their turn, saying the word or answer to the number sentence, turning it over to play on board.

5. To win a player has to have three of their chips in a row. (Just like tic-tac-toe)

Storing the game

I have found a pretty neat way of storing the chips!

I recently got some erasers from Kmart that came in these little plastic bags with a zip lock at the top. They are a perfect size for storing the chips!!

Storing these little bags into a plastic tub or a bag means the chips won't go missing or go everywhere.

Plus I am re-using something that usually would be thrown away.

WIN- WIN!

This very simple game can be used travelling, or at home. There are so many possibilities for what is put on the chips too. You could put times tables or shapes, or even descriptions of things. So many possibilities!!

What would you use this game for? Comment below.
