Mummy Dates and why they are important

Mummy dates. Coffee, chats and mutual understanding. What else could better? Oh right, sleep! Am I right? But mummy dates are extremely important for many reasons!

Mental health

Im going to start with the biggest reason. Mental wellness when you're a mummy is very hard to keep in check. Being able to sit, have a cuppa with another mama who is going through the exact same thing or has been through it can be so beneficial for your mental health. If you're like me you probably have certain things that you are struggling with, or maybe just plain frustrated about. Getting advice from another mama or chatting about it can help sort it out.

Sometimes you just need some adult conversation too! No matter if you are in the newborn stage, or the toddler stage with your little- having an adult conversation might keep you sane!

Support and guidance

As I said above, having some support on an issue you're having or help with frustrations can sort out the problem and guide you in the right direction.

The biggest thing I have found is that other mamas have insights into things I haven't thought of, or known about. Lately bubs has been restless. After talking to other mamas I learned its called a leap!

I remember with OJ, my daughter, that it was support for her too. It helped her gain social skills with new kids, but also interact with other mamas.

Encouragement

When we are sitting at home, in our mama haze of feeding, nappy changes and changes of clothes we sometimes forget what the real world is like.

When I have met with other mamas they have encouraged me in reminding me what a great job I have been doing.

They have given me the confidence to keep going.

Sometimes finding other mamas can be a little daunting and sometimes quite hard. But here's my tips in finding other like mamas around you:

-Healthcare clinics (they organize mums groups and breastfeeding groups too)

-Mamatribe (Www.mamatribe.com.auWww.mamatribe.com.) organize meet ups for mamas

-if you have older children school drop offs and pick ups are a great way to meet other mamas with similar aged children

-friends from school or work who have children

-local cafes

My biggest tip is to just ask. Talk to other mums. See if they are free.

What do you have to loose?
